Get on yer bikes!
Corner Bikes owner, Stephen Steele recently spent some time at Deanpark Nursery offering free advice to children and parents.
The local nursery is already involved with Play on Pedals, a campaign which offers pre-schoolchildren from across the Glasgow area the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike before starting school. Stephen was on hand to support the project, by offering some additional advice on family cycling, bike products and maintenance.
From cycling safely with children, buying the correct bike equipment to where to go cycling Stephen was able to answer all biking queries while highlighting the many health and social benefits of the sport.
Stephen said: “I had a great time at Deanpark and hope the session was helpful. Cycling is a sociable sport and probably one of the best ways for all members of the family to get involved in physical activity in a fairly simple and cheap way.
“Once you invest in the bikes and some basic equipment the benefits are huge and long term. For example a bike trip to the park is not just a fun day out for the family, it’s a great opportunity to bond with your children, have a fully body workout, save money and be environmentally friendly.”
Sharon Downie, general manager at Dean Park Nursery, said: “Everyone at Dean Park would like to say a big thanks to Stephen for taking the time to talk to our children, parents and carers. It was useful to hear about the many benefits both socially and physically cycling can have on a child’s development and overall well-being.
“I’ll definitely be dusting my bike down this summer, and going by the fantastic feedback we’ve receive I expect a number of our families will be ditching the car or bus in favour of bikes this summer.”
